Uncovered at low tide

The Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel uncovers at low tide. The Channel can withdraw up to 9,32 miles (15 km) and reveal the estuaries of the Couesnon, Sélune, and Sée rivers. They still meander in the tangue, a sometimes muddy shelly sand that covers the gray foreshore. Venturing there without a guide can be dangerous as one loses all sense of time and distance and the sea rises quickly (1.66 mph - 6 km/h).
