A village built on a promontory

The Puech of Fontaneilles rises 2,755 ft (840 m) above the Tarn and presents a landscape of forests, black marls, and limestone cliffs. The dwellings are scattered in tiers according to the few axes of communication. The cliffs and the cornices are wooded by deciduous trees and rare clearings. The Château de Peyrelade, its rocky outcrop (1,850 ft / 564 m), and the hamlet at its foot retain a promontory position with an unobstructed view of the Tarn valley.
