The hilltop village of Gorbio is located in the Alpes-Maritimes department. It extends about six miles (10 km) in the hinterland of Menton and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, to which it is linked by a winding departmental road. Implanted at 1,180 ft (360 m) of altitude on a spur attached to the mountain by a pass, Gorbio dominates the Mediterranean Sea. The medieval locality is part of the French Riviera agglomeration community.
