A work of exceptional ingenuity

The Pont du Gard is a work whose ingenuity is still visible in its slightly curvilinear layout. The spouts fitted in front of the bridge piers are proof that the construction was adapted to the fluvial regime of the Gardon, the river it crosses. The Pont du Gard is one of the most valuable monuments in terms of lessons on construction processes dating from the beginnings of the Roman imperial period. These processes are observable on the refined stone apparatus, the apparatus markers for the assembly, and the assembly of the blocks that still bear the marks of the tools used by the quarrymen and stonemasons.
