On February 27, 1966, a congress organized in Paluds-de-Noves in the Bouches-du-Rhône department adopted the implementation of the Vignon project. The Charter of the cockade race became the first regulation of the eponymous events. Even though it continued being used for a long time, their former name of free races lapsed and gave way to the cockade races. In 1975, the French Federation of the Camargue Race was created as a non-profit organization and recognized by the State Secretariat for Youth and Sport. The cockade races officially became Camargue races.
