Stand-up paddleboarding is a water sport that originated in the 1960s in Hawaii. Standing on a board called a SUP, paddle boarders use a long oar to advance over different bodies of water such as rivers, seas, or lakes. This activity exploded first in the United States and has been increasingly popular in Europe as well since the late 2000s. Stand-up paddleboarding owes much of its popularity to its significant accessibility, being suitable for everyone regardless of age, gender, or physical condition. The activity attracts more than 82,000 followers in France, according to 2017 figures.
