A wish executed by Louis XV

In order to honor Louis XIV's wish to create a breeding ground for horses for his armies, Louis XV purchased nearly 2,718 acres (1,100 hectares) of land. They included the domain of Buisson Exmes and the Pin seigneury, which he exchanged for lands in Picardy. The monarch wanted to establish the largest stud farm in the kingdom. From 1717, the king's equids (about 200 horses) from the stables of Saint-Léger were transferred to the Haras National du Pin. Today, the site also allows seeing a collection of horse-drawn carriages illustrating the know-how of French coachbuilders.
