A popular site for mountaineers

With its 6,184 ft (1,885 m) of altitude, Puy de Sancy is the highest point of Massif Central and the highest volcano in mainland France. Its alpine allure, the four valleys shaped by glaciers that originate on its flanks, its steep slopes, and its jagged ridges contrast radically with most of the other summits of Massif Central. Along with the other peaks and rocks surrounding it, such as Puy Ferrand (6,082 ft / 1,854 m) or Dent de la Rancune, Puy de Sancy constitutes a site popular with mountaineers.
