A site populated since Antiquity

Rich with a history marked by a succession of renowned feats of arms and historical events, Saint-Tropez has been populated since Antiquity by Phoenicians settled in Marseille. They created mooring stations along the Mediterranean to ensure navigation between their trading posts. The city took the name of Heraclea during the invasion of Gaul by the Romans before being occupied from all sides (Barbary invasions, pirates, privateers...) at the fall of the Roman Empire and deserted by its inhabitants in the late first millennium.
