Robert Marichy is one of the last traditional woodturners in the Jura. He is established in Arinthod, near Saint-Claude, where woodturning began in the 5th century to make rosaries and other small pious objects for pilgrims. Robert Marichy specialized in lighting like his father and grandfather. At over 88 years old, he continues to produce wood shavings in his workshop adjoining his 1830 house. Since he has no apprentice, his know-how may disappear with him.
