A rostrum essential for feeding
0
0
The rostrum of the cicada is a stinging and sucking proboscis-shaped mouth apparatus placed at the level of its neck just before the insertion of its forelegs. This pointed and rigid pipe is connected to the cicada's mouth and extends its face. By sucking the sap from the roots, plants, and trees that it pierces like a syringe, it allows the cicada to feed at all stages of its larval and aerial life.
