A rich real estate heritage

The city of Houlgate developed in the second half of the 19th century around two poles on the banks of the Drochon: on its left bank at the level of the Hameau de la Mer and on its right bank around Beuzeval, whose name it definitively supplanted in 1905. At the beginning of the 20th century, the seafront had acquired its final appearance, and Houlgate had five hundred houses. Over time, the Neo-Norman style has become simpler and has lost its picturesqueness compared to the audacity of the creations of previous generations. However, the rich real estate heritage that has survived testifies to the specificity of the phenomenon of resort architecture and its success on the Calvados coast.
