Long used to travel for service, military, and exploratory purposes, cross-country skiing makes it possible to quickly cover sometimes very long distances on flat or with little elevation gain terrain. It is what the brothers Anders and Jörgen Aukland, two Norwegian skiers, accompanied by their compatriot Joar Thele, also a cross-country skier, did. Long-distance specialists, they set a new unofficial world record for distance on cross-country skis in March 2020, when they covered 320 miles (516 km) in 31h30.
