A statue of the Virgin and Child marks the corner of rue Notre-Dame and rue de la Boucherie (the Butcher’s street) in Besse en Chandesse. In the Middle Ages, the Butcher’s street gathered the butchers’ shops in a trading district which testifies to the importance of merchant exchanges and local customers at the time. A single commercial house from the 15th century has preserved until today a set of shops on its ground floor.
