An ancient observation promontory

0
Located in the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Nature Park, the village of Saint-Samson-de-la-Roque dominates the lower valley and its mouth. It originates from an ancient Celtic oppidum and has always constituted an observation post from its rocky promontory 374 ft (114 m) high. Installed in 1849, the integral lighthouse of Saint-Samson-de-la-Roque guided navigators to Quillebeuf, Caudebec, and Rouen. Some 32 ft (10 m) high, it was electrified in 1900 and decommissioned in 1910. The building has been listed as a Historical Monument since 2011.
