The Millau Viaduct spans 1.53 miles (2.46 km) over the Tarn valley in the Aveyron department. Its highway allows joining the Causse Rouge and the Causse du Larzac. The bridge also opens up the entire Massif Central, allowing a connection from Clermont-Ferrand to Montpellier without any toll other than the viaduct's right of way. Recognized as promoting the public interest in 1995, the Millau Viaduct was built in three years, from October 2001 to December 2004.
