The Quai Henri IV has always been of great importance for Dieppe. It borders the Vieux Bassin from where the King's privateers' boats and herring fishermen left. It is from this port that Paris was supplied with fish on the road called chasse-marée. The Quai Henri IV also allowed embarking on the West Indies, Guyana, and Canada. In 1523, the shipowner Jehan Ango sent two Florentines to discover the East coast of America. They founded Nouvelle-Angoulême there, which later became New York.
