A major Norman port in the Middle Ages

0
After the conquest of England by Duke William the Conqueror of Normandy, Barfleur became the region's main port, from where Dukes and Kings of England left for their kingdom. Following many fires that started in 1348, the village lost most of its medieval heritage. It only houses a few remains of the ramparts and a medieval house in the Cour Sainte-Catherine. Most of Barfleur's gray granite houses date from the 17th and 18 centuries. Today, it is listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
