A constantly expanding port
The container, invented in 1955, now constitutes the main component of the international traffic of goods. In order to maintain competitiveness vis-à-vis the largest European ports, the Grand Port Maritime du Havre (Le Havre's Central Naval Port) implemented the Port 2000 project. Its terminals, accessible without locks or tidal constraints, are reserved exclusively for container ships. Port 2000, a new expansion of the constantly evolving port in its conquest of the estuary, also aims to become an example in terms of ecology and sustainable development.
