At birth, greater flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) are first covered with a light gray down that darkens around the age of two weeks. Their first plumage is greyish before giving way, in juveniles, to a white body, a gray head, and dark wings. The feathers of greater flamingos turn pink between the ages of one and three.
