Accessible on foot from the jetty at the end of which it stands, Nice's lighthouse is not open to visits. Onlookers can observe it from outside while walking on the port or from Castle Hill or Mont Boron, which overhang it. However, the lighthouse is expected to be moved or destroyed at the end of the redevelopment project that schedules the destruction of the current dike and its doubling by an external one twice as large to accommodate liners.
