New Caledonia is one of the top four territories in the world in terms of biodiversity. The peridotites, these particular rocks which covered part of Grande-Terre 37 million years ago, have allowed its flora to evolve in a state of isolation and to form a rich and unique heritage made up of 3,926 described species with a rate of endemism of 75%.
