A hidden parchment

The imperial eagle of Wilhelm II still sits at the summit of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle's keep, spreading its wings over the plain of Alsace. In 1995 however, a storm broke it, and a parchment was discovered inside the bird. It contained an ode celebrating the Kaiser's initiative to restore the fortress in 1900. Besides this tribute to Wilhelm II, the numerous coats of arms, Latin texts, and decorations adorning the castle since the 20th century are testaments to his importance for the rejuvenation of the Haut-Koenigsbourg.
