For more than twenty years, Port-Cros National Park has been in charge of the establishment and monitoring on behalf of France of the Pelagos project for an International Sanctuary for Marine Mammals. This project results from a tripartite agreement signed in 1999 between Italy, the Principality of Monaco, and France. France's specific role, via Port-Cros National Park, concerns the animation and coordination of actions in favor of marine mammals. The park collaborates with the State, the local authorities, scientists, associations, and the professionals of transport, fishing, and tourism.
