The Jura massif is home to the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve. Protecting the highest part of the massif, the latter is covered with forest up to 70% of its surface of 11,000 hectares. The climatic conditions of low temperatures and high rainfalls coupled with the pedological characteristics of this 24.8 miles (40 km) long Jura arc have allowed the emergence of humid altitude forests and in particular of sphagnum spruce stands with a remarkable flora.
