Created in 1989, Ballons des Vosges Nature Park extends over 1,864 sq. mi (3,000 km²) over the three former regions of Alsace, Franche-Comté, and Lorraine. Place of rich culture, the park includes 350 Historical Monuments sites, two Land of Art and History areas, and ten remarkable villages. It is also a site for numerous thematic routes: the ridge, the Wine Route, the Cheese Route, the 1,000 lakes... The medieval village of Riquewihr is a land of vineyards and stands along the Wine Route.
