In 1800, Napoléon installed the first tomb in the Hôtel des Invalides and its Dôme church, that of Turenne, Marshall of Louis XIV. From then on, the Invalides also became a pantheon of French military glories. In addition to the tomb of Emperor Napoléon, the dome also houses those of Vauban (Louis XIV's military architect), Napoléon II (son of the Emperor, called the Eaglet), Napoléon's brothers Joseph and Jérôme Bonaparte, Generals Bertrand and Duroc, and Marshals Foch and Lyautey. The last to be buried there, in 1992, was the surgeon of the Great Army, Dominique-Jean Larrey.
