A new type of stained glass

Saint Basle was both an itinerant hermit and a missionary monk. Eager to live alone, he chose to retreat into contemplation at the top of a mountain near Verzy, where he built a cell and an oratory. Venerated as a saint capable of numerous miracles, he died in 620, and a church was erected to honor him in Bouzy. In 1994, master glassmaker Antoine Benoit filed the patent for the lead-free stained glass. Also created without cement nor gluing, this type of glass allowed new creative perspectives. Stained-glass windows 14 ft high (4.5 m) were realized in one piece for Saint-Basle Church in Bouzy, constituting a first in the world.
