A musher, like Pierre Daniel from Les Bois Fous estate in Septmoncel-les-Molunes in the Haut-Jura, can be accompanied by several breeds of dogs in his activity. The generally preferred breeds are the Siberian Husky, the Greenlander, the Samoyed, the Alaskan Malamute which have common qualities of resistance to cold, hardiness, obedience and adaptability to the pack.
