The Domaine de Villarceaux is never in lack of water owing to the 32 springs on the property, a record in France and in Europe. The first eco-managed historical monument in Europe, the estate was awarded the Eve (Ecological Plant Area) label in 2012 for the ecological management of its green spaces. The Ile-de-France green spaces agency has banned fertilisers, chemical weed killers, and plant protection products in favour of ladybirds and nettle purin. Eco-pasturing by sheep and donkeys cleans the meadows and 40 beehives, away from the paths, produce a high quality honey. A way to combine history and sustainable ecology.
