A monument of historical experimentation

Guédelon is a fortified castle associated with the 13th century which combines military, political, legal, and residential functions by taking up the architectural criteria of Philippe Auguste, King of France from 1180 to 1223. It is not a vestige of the past but rather a monument in the making and a site of historical experimentation. Its first stone was laid on June 20, 1997, and the last one should be laid around 2023 or 2025 depending on the sources. Guédelon is, therefore, a brand new fortified castle whose current construction is the subject of an unprecedented experimental work site.
