A critical moment

The moment of molten metal pouring is always critical. Even though the gestures have hardly changed since the factory's opening in 1857, it takes years of experience to pass this phase. The heat of the incandescent mass can reach 2,553° F (1,400°C), and the workers handling the pouring wheel seem little protected. Before overflowing, the liquid stops at the vent that is activated to evacuate the gases. The GHM metallurgical factory is renowned for its creations made from cast iron, an iron alloy that comprises 2.1 to 6.67% carbon. Its workers also work with cast aluminum and bronze alloys.
