Reconstructed furniture of medieval inspiration

The medieval-inspired furniture in the Grande Salle des Pôvres (Great Hall of the Poor) at the Hospices de Beaune was reconstructed during the renovation carried out in 1875 by Maurice Ouradou, the son-in-law of Viollet-le-Duc known for his restorations of medieval buildings. Along the walls, alcoves closed by thick red curtains shelter the beds of the sick. Two patients could lie head to tail in each bed. The whole gives an idea of the functional aspect of this large room commissioned in 1452.
