Skiers who practice freeride skiing (off-piste skiing) must be equipped to navigate a thick and ungroomed snow cover. The skis and their runners are wider than conventional skis, so much so that the widest ones are called ‘fat skis’. Also longer than traditional skis, they can be fitted with a double front rear spatula or at least a larger front one to avoid sinking into the snow.
