The Corsican coast is particularly tormented : out of the 650mi (1047km) of coast that surround the 5419sqmi (8722km2) of the island territory, there is less than 62mi (100km) of plain at the bottom of the gulfs and on the east coast. Elsewhere, the waves and the winds have carved the shore reliefs resulting from a complex geological history.
