The Pic du Midi of Bigorre is the most renowned ambassador of the Hautes-Pyrénées department. Since the end of the 19th century, it has hosted a world-famous observatory, open to the public, constituting a unique place for observing the night sky. By day, the site offers visitors a panorama of the Pyrénées mountains from furnished terraces. At the foot of the Pic du Midi, the Col du Tourmalet owes its fame to the many cycling fans who flock each year to compete at this flagship stage of the Tour de France.
