Donkey milk has been renowned for its cosmetic and health virtues since ancient times. Queen Cleopatra of Egypt bathed in donkey milk daily, just like Diane de Poitiers and many ladies of olden times who wished to give their skin the radiance of youth. Poppea, Emperor Nero's wife, used a herd of 500 donkeys for this purpose. Donkey milk is the closest to breast milk, and its biochemical composition makes it particularly interesting from both a nutritional and dermatological point of view. It is used to craft artisanal soaps at the Domaine d'Esthine in Longrais in the Manche department.
