Gaube Lake is a high-altitude lake famous for its location and ease of access. Located at an altitude of 5,659 feet (1,725 m) in the Cauterets valley, it is accessible in an hour's walk through the pines or by chairlift from the Pont d'Espagne car park. The lake is 130 ft deep (40 m) and has a surface area of 47 acres (19 ha) with more than 1.2 miles (2 km) of shoreline. Its delta is located at the mouth of the main torrent and is loaded with glacial alluvium (deposits from transport by running water). Fishermen find brown trouts, arctic chars, or brook trouts as well as grey trouts in Gaube Lake's waters.
