An itinerary of deep contrasts

Access to the Chartreuse de la Verne, located in the heart of the forest of the Maures Massif, constitutes a first immersion in the world of silence and solitude of the nuns of Bethlehem, the Assumption of the Virgin, and Saint-Bruno who occupy the monastery. Coming from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez or Collobrières, visitors follow two small roads traced in the middle of the massif where the human presence is discreet, a rare sensation in the densely populated south of the Var department. The vegetation of chestnut trees, holm and cork oaks, or eucalyptus varies depending on the slopes, the exposure, and the nature of the soil and also contrasts with the Provençal pine forests and garrigue.
