When driving from Chorges towards Savines-le-Lac in the Hautes-Alpes department, visitors can observe the islet of Saint-Michel on the right. It is surmounted by a small chapel and dominated by the peak of Grand Morgon. The 3,031 ft (924 m) long Savines bridge, used by the national road 94, connects the two shores of the artificial lake of Serre-Ponçon, created in 1959.
