A rocky islet in the shape of a butterfly

Burgaux islet is part of the Îlets de Sainte-Anne National Nature Reserve, one of the most important nesting sites for migratory seabirds in the Lesser Antilles, on the Atlantic coast of Martinique. Located between Hardy and Poirier islets near Percé islet, this 1.2-acre (0.49 ha) uninhabited islet rises 23 ft (7 m) above sea level. Shaped like a butterfly, it is pierced in its center and covered with shells that earned it its name. Docking on the islet is almost impossible due to the swell. Access is possible via its eastern fringe at low tide by crossing the shallow summit reef plateau on foot and climbing the sheared rock table colonized by numerous chitons.
