Next to the quadrangular baroque bell tower surmounted by an onion steeple of Saint-Pierre Church in Castellar is inserted a lintel engraved with the inscription asylum of the poor. It recalls that in the 17th century, the village of the Alpes-Maritimes department housed a hospital to welcome the poor sick and a pawnshop to help the peasants in need. The church would, in fact, have been renovated in 1724 with the help of the poor of the area.
