A typical habitat marked by local materials

The typical habitat of Ille-et-Villaine inspires the more seaside constructions of the coast of Dinard. It takes the form of a rectangular house, most often on one level, called a 'block on the ground'. Its main façade faces south to take advantage of the sun and shelter from north winds and westerly rains ; it is surmounted by attics lit by skylights or 'gerbières'. Outbuildings are built in the extension of the house, which then takes on the appearance of a 'longère', or / and perpendicular to the main body. The habitat uses local materials (schist, Armorican sandstone) exploited until the beginning of the 20th century in many slate mines and quarries for the production of facing stones, slabs and roofing slates.
