In the center of the music room of the Villa du Temps Retrouvé in Cabourg sits a Pleyel piano, one of the greatest piano brands in the world. The Pleyel house was founded in 1807 by Ignace Joseph Pleyel (1757-1831), a French-naturalized composer, music publisher, and piano maker of Austrian origin. It has become one of the oldest piano manufacturers in the world as well as one of the three great names in French piano making, along with Érard and Gaveau. Pleyel pianos offer a romantic French-style sound much appreciated by Frédéric Chopin and still sought-after by today's greatest pianists.
