The development of Qetaifan Island South was at the infrastructure stage (roads, bridges) in October 2022. Designed as a haven of peace away from the hubbub of Doha, each area of the island should have its own functionality. As the gateway to Lusail, South Island 1 will offer numerous shops and public facilities. South Island 2 will offer a waterfront promenade and a traditional souk. The future high-end residential area and beaches on South Island 3 will target a rich foreign clientele. Qetaifan Island North is also being developed by Qetaifan Projects. Currently under completion, the island has been involved in welcoming foreign fans to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November-December 2022. On this occasion, an ephemeral hotel village of 1,800 luxurious Bedouin tents provided accommodation for thousands of visitors.
