A late 18th or early 19th century fort

Zekreet Fort is located just north of the village of Zekreet on the west coast of Qatar (municipality of Al Shahaniya). Given its similar layout to other Qatari forts, such as those at Al Huwaila and Al Zubarah, its construction can be dated to the late 18th or early 19th century. Its design reflects two distinct periods of development. Initially designed as a simple quadrilateral, the building had towers added to each corner – three circular and one rectangular – in a later phase of construction. The site of Zekreet Fort is freely accessible to the public, via a dirt road that links it to Zekreet.
