A fort built to protect the ridges

The fort of Randouillet extends on a hill overlooking the Plateau des Têtes above Briançon in the Hautes-Alpes department. Its narrower and steeper position than the neighboring military works prompted its development on three platforms to prevent attacks from the ridges. It was transformed into a permanent work after the border change of 1713 following the War of the Spanish Succession and acquired its final appearance in 1734.
