A coastal river of the Alpes-Maritimes department, the Loup takes its source at an altitude of 3,937 ft (1,200 m). It originates in a wooded cirque of the commune of Andon-Thorenc north of the Audibergue mountain and flows into the Mediterranean Sea between Villeneuve-Loubet and Cagnes-sur-Mer. Thirty miles (49.3 km) long, the Loup gives its hydronym to three of the ten municipalities it crosses: Tourrettes-sur-Loup, Le Bar-sur-Loup, and La Colle-sur-Loup.
