Completed in 1734, the Fort des Têtes has never been attacked and has only been bombed once, in June 1940. Restored since, it still constitutes a real military town planning complex made up of a majority of two-storey buildings with slate roofs, even if some of the buildings planned by Vauban in 1700 never came to life.
