The first developments of the Touques estuary in the Calvados department were undertaken by the municipality of Trouville-sur-Mer in 1843. They were led by Henry Haraux, an auxiliary driver of the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (Bridges and Roads National School). The works included the construction of a riprap to protect the Cahotte peninsula from marine erosion and of two jetties to secure the channel. The port infrastructures of the site are now dedicated to the pleasure fleet. The channel framed by two wooden piers opens onto the outer harbor that precedes the yacht basin and the wet basin, both closed by locks.
